Overview & Learning Objectives

This course is designed for dentists and dental team members seeking to deepen their understanding of both direct and indirect restorative materials in contemporary practice. Participants will explore how these innovations impact clinical decisions—from diagnosis and material selection to preparation, delivery, and follow-up care. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, this course highlights the essential role of the entire dental team in ensuring seamless, patient-centered care. Through case discussions and practical strategies, attendees will gain insights into how to optimize workflows and outcomes in a modern restorative setting.

Troy Schmedding

Dr. Troy Schmedding is a 1993 honors graduate of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California. Troy maintains a private practice in Walnut Creek, CA focusing on aesthetic and functional dentistry. Dr. Schmedding was a Course Director at the University of the Pacific and has published numerous articles on the topics of restorative materials and protocol driven Dentistry. An Accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he lectures both nationally and internationally on Aesthetic, Restorative and Adhesive Dentistry. Dr. Schmedding shares his knowledge with numerous dental manufacturers helping to stimulate new product development for our profession.

This course will be held at LSU School of Dentistry at 1100 Florida Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana located in the Mid-City area of New Orleans near beautiful City Park and historic Bayou St. John. If you are staying at a downtown hotel in or near the French Quarter, the distance to the dental school is approximately five miles. If you are driving to the dental school, free parking is available in the patient and visitor parking lots located across from the dental school.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located approximately 30-40 minutes by taxi from both downtown New Orleans and LSU School of Dentistry. For your return flight, please allow about 90 minutes for the trip to the airport and for airline check-in.

LSUCDE video courses are live-streamed via Zoom. CE administrators perform roll call and random check-ins via the chat window in Zoom. If you miss one or more check-ins it could affect your credits. Before the course you will receive three links: a link to the meeting, a link to a short test, and a link to a course evaluation. You must submit the test and evaluation in order to receive credit. The Louisiana State Board of Dentistry counts CE hours earned through LSUCDE live video conference as in-person hours.

LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about CE provider may be directed to the provider or to the Commission for Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition at www.ada.org/CERP.
Cancellation & Refund Policy:
The registration fee is partially refundable (minus an administrative fee) if you cancel your registration thirty (30) days before the start of the course. Any cancellation after this deadline will result in forfeiture of the entire tuition.  Written cancellation requests can be submitted by email to CDE@lsuhsc.edu. LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education (LSUCDE) reserves the right to cancel the course should circumstances warrant such action. Full refunds of registration fees would be made in that event.  However, LSUCDE is not responsible for any related costs or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines.
Health & Wellness (Physical Attendance) Policy:
By registering for an in-person course, you affirm that you will comply with the safety requirements of the course facility/location (if only) with regards to wearing face masks, getting temperature taken, etc. You also affirm that you will NOT attend the course if you have a fever, respiratory/flu-like symptoms and/or if you believe that you have been exposed to COVID-19. If you are ill and/or feel that you should self-quarantine and will not be able to attend the course (in-person), contact our office (504) 941-8193 or CDE@lsuhsc.edu). It is your responsibility to (i) ensure you are healthy enough to attend a course in person, (ii) abide by safety requirements of the course facility/location, and (iii) contact LSUCDE office (504) 941-8193 or CDE@lsuhsc.edu) if you will be unable to attend a course due to illness. LSUCDE must be contacted PRIOR to the start date/time of the course. LSUCDE monitors updates from the CDC, as well as, local, state, and federal guidelines. If additional safety precautions become necessary, LSUCDE will inform registered attendees.

Please: No recording devices in lecture room or lab, and turn mobile phones off. New Knowledge Related to Dental Practice: You are cautioned about the potential risks of using limited knowledge when incorporating techniques and procedures into your practice, especially when the course has not provided you with supervised clinical experience to ensure you have attained competence.
